Well, two very quick questions:
1. Is anyone else going to the Bloomsbury Circus launch tomorrow night in London? I’d love to know if you are, as it would be great to meet up with other bloggers there.
2. What do people wear to launch parties? How smart are these events likely to be? Help! Any advice gratefully received.
Most of the launches I’ve been to in London have been what you could loosely call “smart casual” – I’d normally iron my shirt for a change, but I wouldn’t wear a suit. The only exception was dictated by the venue (the Swiss Embassy) and was mentioned on the invite. It said lounge suits – I had to look up what a lounge suit was
Anyway, hope that helps. Enjoy the party!
Bless you – and good for you that you iron your own shirt and don’t get your wife to do it! I live in my jeans, and whilst I am perfectly happy to add a more party-ish top, I get anxious when I have to be parted from them. It sounds like I might be able to get away with them, if I add some suitably dressy accompaniments!
Can’t help, not even about boats, but have a great time!
Thank you so much, Bookboxed! Don’t worry – there are plenty of occasions when I want to pick your brains!
I always find that publishers are impossibly glamorous, and I don’t even try to compete… but you’ll be fine
The ones I’ve been to have been the same dress code as the do we attended.
Oh, and make sure you eat something beforehand! There will probably be lots of alcohol and not very much food…
Simon, this was all such good advice! I did indeed eat my way through a Marks and Spencer wrap before the train ground to a halt. And I was very glad not to be hungry as well as stranded. I might have had a tantrum otherwise!
I can’t help I’m afraid, but it does sound very exciting! Hope you’ll tell us all about it.
Oh I wish I could, too! It was such a shame to miss it. But hopefully there will be other occasions.
I had an email invite to this event but someone neglected to send me an airline ticket to get to London so I won’t be attending
I do hope you have a good time though!
Lol! Mind you, given the hex on the evening, the airplane would probably have developed a fault en route and then you would have had to spend hours and hours stranded in Labrador or somewhere! So it’s just as well you got to have a peaceful Wednesday without any hassle……
Oh man I wish I was, but sadly no. You can totally wear jeans though and dressy ‘bits’ like a nice jacket and walkable heels/boots (didn’t you buy boots this year?). I second eating before you go
I had completely taken your advice – jeans and my best top and jewellery. I nearly wore my heeled boots (which yes I did buy this year, well remembered!) but then I thought I might have to dash about London a bit, a city my nan insisted had the hardest pavements in the world. So went for flat boots instead. But I looked very smart for my long train ride….
